What surprising fact do you learn about Miss Strangeworth? Why is this fact so incongruous?

I would argue that there are two surprising facts about Miss Strangeworth that are incongruous. The first is that she is the proud owner of a beautiful rose garden. The beauty of the garden stands in stark contrast to the ugliness of Miss Strangeworth's soul as expressed in her nasty poison-pen letters.
The other surprising fact about Miss Strangeworth, one equally incongruous with her personality, is that she is thought of by the townsfolk as a sweet little old lady with a genuine concern for others. Her advice, which she dispenses freely to all, is highly regarded. Miss Strangeworth has a strong sense of civic pride, largely on account of the fact that her grandfather built the first house on Pleasant Street. (An ironic name indeed.) However, her genuine concern for the community is not in keeping with either the tone or content of her letters, which among other things, accuse people of not raising their children properly. Compare this to the motherly advice Miss Strangeworth gives when she is talking to them face to face.
