Why do Bud no longer cry when hears he is going to a new home

In the first chapter of the novel, a caseworker approaches Bud and explains to him that he will be living with his new foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos. Bud then mentions that this will be his third foster home and says that he is used to moving to new homes. Bud says that he used to get choked up and cry when he was told he had to leave for a new home. However, Bud has gotten used to constantly moving from home to home and no longer cries when it is time to leave for a new family. Bud is a ten-year-old orphan whose mother passed away from an unexplained illness at a relatively young age when he was six years old. Bud is a resilient boy, who attempts to travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to meet his biological father.
