Nepal has been a United Nations member since 1955 and, like other members, regularly takes part in its peace-keeping operations. It has a regular army, which sends soldiers to support the UN in its peaceful missions. Nepalese soldiers have helped keep order in Africa, the Balkan States, and other areas of political and social unrest over the past fifty years.
Nepal is against the use of nuclear weapons and has taken a stand on this issue on several occasions. It is widely understood to be a peace-seeking state, it does not engage in unnecessary conflict with other nations, and it has not declared war on another state since it declared war on Germany during World War I. While Nepal has been involved in a so-called "Cold War" with India, this has not resulted in active hostilities.
