“Love Conquers All” is a theme expressed in Romeo and Juliet. Argue whether you think this is true using details and/or examples from the play to support you answer.

"Love conquers all" may be a theme of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, but it does not necessarily prove true depending on how the audience interprets the ending of the play. Both Romeo and Juliet express their love for each other floridly and passionately, and their talk of their destiny to be together is certainly romantic, but a few details challenge the notion that these expressions of love are enough to conquer "all."
First of all, Romeo has a reputation as a dreamer and a romantic. He has been in love before, and he has a tendency toward melodrama, as evidenced by the behavior his father and Benvolio describe in Act 1. Romeo sleeps all day, starts every morning in tears, and avoids his friends while mourning the loss of his dream and his separation from Rosaline. These characteristics give the audience reason to question the veracity of his love for Juliet.
Secondly, Romeo and Juliet are very young. This does not immediately disqualify them from being in love, but their youth does explain their dramatic and impulsive decision-making. For example, Romeo's murder of Tybalt is a result of this immature impetuousness.
Finally, the deaths of Romeo and Juliet at the end of the play are evidence that their love has not conquered very much at all. Two young romantics have died needlessly, and their love will do them little good in death. A more positive reading of their deaths, however, is available in the fact that the Capulets and the Montagues resolve their family feud as a result; so even though Romeo and Juliet cannot enjoy the outcome of their love for each other, it does some good for the rest of Verona.
