What made Sherrena give up teaching to become an inner-city landlord?

Sherrena was bored with being a teacher. So after eight long years in the classroom she opened up her own day care facility. Unfortunately for her, the day care center was closed down on what she calls a "technicality" so she reluctantly went back to teaching. Her son started acting up in school so she decided to have him educated at home. It was then that she started trying her hand at real estate.
Sherrena soon realized that there was money to be made, especially in renting out properties to low-income African Americans in the less-desirable parts of the city. But there was more to it than that. In common with other landlords, Sherrena wanted independence. She had the unwavering conviction that she could make it on her own, that she could provide for herself and her family by becoming an inner-city entrepreneur. And, at that time, the real estate business seemed the best way to do this.
