Did the following happen in "No Place For You, My Love" by Eudora Welty? a) In this story, the man and woman dance beautifully together at Baba's, appearing to onlookers as if they have always been a couple. b) In this story, the female protagonist's hat is blown away during the boat ride. Even though the man catches it, he does not return it to her because he has disliked it from the first time he saw it on her in Galatoire's. c) In the denouement of this story, the female protagonist gives the man the name of her hotel but he tells her that he won't be able to see her again because he has to leave New Orleans the following day. d) The man and female in this story first see one another at Galatoire's and then take a drive to South Louisiana in a rented convertible.

a) In this story, the man and woman dance beautifully together at Baba's, appearing to onlookers as if they have always been a couple.
True. The name of the beer shack is actually "Baba's Place." The man quietly grabs the woman's hand as she gets down from her stool. By all indications, she had planned on going outside. The man stops her, and they begin dancing instead. The text tells us that "no one paid any attention as long as they were together." The man and woman are said to appear like a "matched team" of "professional Spanish dancers wearing masks." Interestingly, both are wearing emotional masks: they are unwilling to reveal their true selves to each other.
b) In this story, the female protagonist's hat is blown away during the boat ride. Even though the man catches it, he does not return it to her because he has disliked it from the first time he saw it on her in Galatoire's.
False. While it is true that the man does not like the hat, he does return it to the woman after he retrieves it from a lower deck on the ferry.
c) In the denouement of this story, the female protagonist gives the man the name of her hotel, but he tells her that he won't be able to see her again because he has to leave New Orleans the following day.
False. While it is true that the woman gives the man the name of her hotel, he never tells her why he won't be able to see her again. After the man drops the woman off at her hotel, they shake hands and say goodnight. Even though the woman may have expected a kiss from the man, he doesn't oblige her. The text tells us that he asks for forgiveness for not doing so, and she forgives him.
Another interpretation of the farewell incident focuses on the possibility that the man may have given the woman a kiss and then apologized for doing so. While the woman knows that the man is married, he has no idea if she is similarly attached. The request for forgiveness may result from the man apologizing just in case the woman is married.
d) The man and female in this story first see one another at Galatoire's and then take a drive to South Louisiana in a rented convertible.
True. The man and woman first see one another at Galatoire's, and they do take a road trip in a red Ford convertible. The story specifies that the couple takes a drive to the south of New Orleans. If you look at the map where New Orleans is, you will see that New Orleans is in southeastern Louisiana.
