Was D-Day the largest attack in history?

D-Day was the largest amphibious landing in military history. It takes a great deal to coordinate a landing on a hostile beach. Naval gunships have to shell the enemy defenses. One has to get men and machinery in place, often while the enemy is shooting at easy targets. There is also the question of supply lines since an army is no good without food, medicine, and ammunition. The Allies landed approximately 156,000 troops at D-Da, and this says nothing about the special forces and paratroopers who worked behind the lines to hinder the German army from stopping the invasion force. There have been larger attacks in history. In terms of numbers of soldiers the siege of Vienna by the Ottomans involved at least 160,000 people. D-Day may have been one of the most momentous battles in history because it finally broke the back of Nazi Germany. Germany may have still lost the war without the invasion, but then the Soviet Union would possibly have far more influence in Europe.
