What did Guy Montag gain and lose from his epiphany of his surroundings in Fahrenheit 451?

After experiencing an epiphany regarding his life, marriage, and occupation, Montag becomes motivated to change the trajectory of his life by quitting his job and engaging in intellectual pursuits. Following his epiphany, Montag experiences a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment in his life that he never experienced before as a firefighter. Montag also gains a renewed energy and positive outlook for the future, instead of being bored with his mundane life. In addition to becoming motivated to seek knowledge, Montag also gains genuine, eccentric friends. People like Faber, Granger, and the other traveling intellectuals become close companions with Montag and risk their lives helping him pursue knowledge.
Despite the many positives that come along with finding his purpose in life, Montag loses his sense of security. Being that Montag chooses to live as an intellectual, he immediately becomes an enemy of the state and is in constant danger of being arrested or killed. Montag also loses his wife, Mildred, who has no motivation to support her husband and his intellectual pursuits. Montag also loses his financial security and must rely on the natural environment of the wilderness and his friends to support him.
