Who is Barack Obama?

Barack Obama is the forty-fourth president of the United States. He was a Democratic senator from Illinois who was elected president in 2008 and 2012. He became the first African American president of the United States. Both of his presidential campaigns were influential among young people who liked his rhetoric and his ability to relate to people. His 2008 campaign slogan was "Change You Can Believe In," and many people saw the potential for change. While many of his visions were not carried out due to disagreements with the Republican Party, President Obama managed to pass many key pieces of legislation, most importantly the Affordable Health Care Act, which provided insurance for millions of uninsured. This has proven quite controversial due to costs and regulations and some of the provisions of this have been rolled back under the Trump administration. President Obama's foreign policy saw the increased use of drones and the continued use of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay. The United States's role in Afghanistan and Iraq stayed steady throughout his term. During President Obama's eight years in office, the economy recovered from the recession of 2008.
