How do Jonas's parents console Jonas for the upcoming December ceremony?

In The Giver, Jonas recognizes that he is feeling "apprehensive" about the upcoming Ceremony of Twelve. He shares his feelings with his family during the "evening telling of feelings." Jonas's father shares that he finds the ceremonies exciting and that "Each December brings such changes." The Ceremony of Twelve is one in which each child learns what his or her job will be. The Committee of Elders spends time observing the children, and based on their interests, skills, and activities, they will determine how each of them can best serve the community.
Jonas's parents console him by listening to his concerns and by sharing their own stories of previous ceremonies. For example, they discuss the ceremony in which Jonas's little sister, Lily, was chosen for his family. His mother and father discuss their own Ceremony of Twelve when his father was chosen to be a Nurturer, and his mother was chosen for "training in Law and Justice." Jonas also learns that while he may not see his friends as often, he will spend time with those that are chosen for the same path.
