In The Color Purple, Corrine is the woman who adopted Celie's children, Olivia and Adam, when Celie's stepfather sold them right after they were born. She is also the wife of Reverend Samuel.
When Corrine and Samuel bring Nettie with them for their Missionary work in Africa, Corrine is not aware that Celie is the biological mother of her children, or that Nettie is Celie's sister (and therefore the children's biological aunt). Olinka villagers make the assumption that Corrine and Nettie are both Samuel's wives, and that Olivia and Adam are Nettie's children because the three share a family resemblance. Because of this, Corrine convinces herself that Nettie is their biological mother, and that they were born because Nettie and her husband Samuel had an affair. Nettie tries to tell Corrine that her sister Celie is actually Olivia and Adam's mother, but Corrine does not believe her up until right before she dies of a fever while still in Africa.
