What is the setting?

The action of Judy Blume's young adult novel Just As Long As We're Together takes place at the end of summer in Connecticut. Palfrey's Pond is the name of the neighborhood in Connecticut where Stephanie, Rachel, and Alison all live and go to junior high school.
The setting is not explicitly identified as Connecticut by Stephanie, who is the narrator of the novel; instead, Alison identifies the setting when she explains to Stephanie that her dog Maizie "is probably the only talking dog in all of Connecticut." This scene takes place next to the pond in Palfrey's Pond. Stephanie also owns a Yale sweatshirt, which is a detail that reinforces the setting of Connecticut, as Yale University is in New Haven, a town in Connecticut.
Some parts of the book take place in the setting of Stephanie's room in her new house in Palfrey's Pond. She has recently moved to this neighborhood, and though she was sad at first when her parents told her that they were moving, she felt much happier when she found out they were moving to her best friend Rachel's neighborhood. As well, a lot of events unfold at J.E. Fox Junior High, which is the name of the school where the girls attend seventh grade.
In terms of timing, the novel begins just as Stephanie, Rachel, and Alison are getting ready to start seventh grade. References to Stephanie's experiences at summer camp, summer east coast weather like thunderstorms, and discussions of Stephanie's expectations of junior high school all emphasize this unique time period in the lives of all students.
