Squealer spreads false propaganda to the animals and manipulates them into believing they live independent, fulfilling lives, despite the difficult realities of their situation. Squealer continually garners support for Napoleon's agenda by lying to the animals and offering them false statistics. Squealer and Napoleon both use the concept of the windmill to encourage the animals to work longer hours and take shorter breaks. Squealer paints a vivid description of life on the farm with a completed windmill, which seems to justify the animals' hard work.
Squealer also creates a sense of hope and accomplishment by lying about the harvest yield. Squealer dramatically inflates statistics, and Napoleon even has barrels filled predominately with sand to make it seem like the barrels are full of grain. When Squealer and Napoleon are not lying about harvest yields or elaborating on the benefits of the windmill, they are discussing how much better life is without Mr. Jones. Despite the horrid conditions on the farm, Squealer always mentions that life was much worse under Mr. Jones's rule. The uneducated, less-intelligent animals are distracted by the possibility of Mr. Jones's return and are motivated to follow Napoleon's lead.

How do Napoleon and Squealer manipulate the animals into feeling proud and hopeful?
