Write a 500 word essay arguing that industrialization is not favorable to the poor.

For writing an essay about the negative effects of industrialization on the poor, first it is necessary to choose a specific period and place, as industrialization has affected different countries in different ways.
One of the most well-studied examples is late eighteenth and early nineteenth century England, in which industrialization caused major disruptions in people's lives and sparked massive protests. The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845) by Friedrich Engels was one of the many books detailing the horrors of the slums and working conditions in the new manufacturing towns in England. The Luddite movement involved protests against the low wages and economic disruptions of industrialization.
Although after the Industrial Revolution, one can argue that England eventually emerged wealthier and a better place for all of its citizens, the amount of suffering poor people endured and the terrible conditions of the slums and factories were a very high price to pay for this.
It might also be possible to argue that industrialization exacerbates the inequality between labor and capital, especially when backed by crony capitalism and monopolistic rent seeking. Income inequality in England increased dramatically during and after the Industrial Revolution.
