The federal government had several accomplishments between 1815 and 1828. These accomplishments had a significant impact on our country. One accomplishment was the building of the national road. This road began in Cumberland, Maryland and went westward toward the Ohio River. This enabled people and products to move quicker across our country.
Another transportation project that occurred was the building of the Eric Canal. With the construction of the Erie Canal, the Great Lakes were connected to New York City. This also enabled products and people to be transported more quickly and more easily.
Another accomplishment of our government was the legal recognition of the expansion of its power. With a series of Supreme Court decisions affirming the expanding power of our government, the national banking system was ruled to be legal with the McCulloch v Maryland case, and the federal government was able to control interstate trade with the Gibbons v Ogden case. The national banking system made it easier for people and the government to store money and to get loans. With the federal government controlling interstate trade, there was one set of rules for trade between the states. This made it easier for companies to do business across state lines.
The federal government also had some accomplishments in foreign policy. With the signing of the Adams-OnĂs Treaty in 1819, the government was able to annex Florida. The Rush-Bagot Treaty limited the number of naval ships allowed on the Great Lakes. The Convention of 1818 established the boundary of the Louisiana Territory at the 49th parallel. It also allowed people to settle in the Oregon Territory. These agreements helped expand the country and made some areas safer.
These were some of the accomplishments of the federal government between 1815-1828. They had a significant impact on our country.
