What were the consequences of the domination of Soviet Union in post world war era?

For Eastern Europe, the consequences of Soviet domination were devastating. The region could not take any of the funds from the Marshall Plan that the United States sent to rebuild Europe, and the region's economy stagnated for the next forty years. The region's economy still lags behind Western Europe. Soviet puppet leaders established communist regimes in these countries and clamped down on individual freedoms.
The Soviet Union also did its part to spread the Cold War beyond Europe. The Soviet Union assisted leftist regimes in Cuba, North Vietnam, and North Korea. It fought proxy wars with the United States in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan. Soviet domination helped to fuel anti-Russian fever in the United States and helped to fuel a nuclear arms race between the two countries that would define the Cold War era. This led to money being used in defense funding that might have been used on domestic spending for both the United States and the Soviet Union.
