How do geographers study race and ethnicity?

Geographers study the physical features of the Earth and its atmosphere and human activity as it affects and is affected by these. Recently, some geographers have focused specifically on how race and ethnicity impact the earth. Issues of race can affect human beings and the world around them.
For example, ideas of white supremacy were important to the colonization of Africa and South America by European empires. These colonizers viewed themselves as superior to the Africans and indigenous peoples they encountered. This dictated how they treated the African and Latin American environment. The land use practices that native peoples used for centuries were completely ignored by colonial planners, leading to devastating environmental effects.
It can be argued that this ideology has been adopted by some first-world countries in the modern world. Nations located close to the equator are more likely to face problems due to climate change. Some scholars have argued that the decisions of first-world leaders that ignore the perils of climate change are a form of passive racism. These are some ways that geographers study race and ethnicity.
