Mr. Tillian and his son, Harry, have a good relationship throughout Harry’s life. It was routine for Harry to stop by his father's candy shop every day after school with his group of friends. Mr. Tillian was accustomed to this routine, and he enjoyed the company of the young ones. However, this changed when Harry joined junior high; he and his friends ceased their daily trips to the candy shop. Their interests changed to other teenage hobbies like playing video games.
However, Mr. Tillian and Harry’s relationship remained the same when at home. The two of them joked around and had fun, unlike in the shop where Harry got embarrassed whenever his father talked to his parrot. Harry eventually realizes that his father misses his company, as revealed by the parrot, and he feels guilty about it.
