Cynthia absolutely bothers Hazel. Cynthia is a naturally gifted prodigy that is good at just about everything she does.
A regular prodigy. I could kill people like that. I stay up all night studying the words for the spelling bee. And you can see me any time of day practicing running.
This bothers Squeaky because she has to work hard and fight tooth and nail for every good grade she gets, and she works hard to maintain her great running performances. It bothers Squeaky that there are people out there that just seem to have everything come easy for them. On top of that, it really bothers Squeaky that Cynthia acts dumber than she is or acts surprised when she does something correct and does it well. Squeaky knows that Cynthia has complete confidence in herself, and it bothers Squeaky that Cynthia continually plays the the kid that acts surprised and says things like, "Really? Me, I won?"
Or like last week when she won the spelling bee for the millionth time, “A good thing you got ‘receive,’ Squeaky, cause I would have got it wrong. I completely forgot about the spelling bee.”
