The Tucks live at the bottom of a steep embankment in a pine forest. In chapter 9, the Tucks take Winnie Foster to their home.
To get to the Tuck home, the group has to cross pastures, groves, and fields. After traveling for a time, they come across the "deep green of a scattered pine forest." Winnie notices that the pine forest is dark, for little of the sun can penetrate through the dense foliage. Meanwhile, the ground is littered with "moss and sliding needles."
The barn-red house belonging to the Tucks is situated at the bottom of an embankment in the forest. Below the house is a tiny lake. So, the Tucks do not live in Treegap any longer. Once every ten years, Mae Tuck meets her sons at the magic spring in Treegap Forest.
Mae tells Winnie that they have lived in their barn-red house in the pine forest for twenty years. The location of their home affords the family privacy. However, Mae eventually admits that they will soon need to find another home.
