How did the printing press effect colonization?

The printing press played an important role in spreading ideologies and information that supported exploration. The technology was also used to inform the public on what had been discovered during the exploration and opportunities that were available beyond domestic boundaries. The information served the purpose of motivating the citizens and their governments to pursue these opportunities present in foreign territories. Thus, governments readily availed resources to finance the voyages and settlement of the people volunteering, who did so largely based on the information they read about. Spending of public resources for colonization efforts was supported by the citizens because they were informed of the opportunities available.
Ironically, the printing press also brought an end to colonization after information about the atrocities committed by settlers was presented. Public sentiment changed and people supported the end of colonization, as was the case in most African countries. For instance, the anti-apartheid rallies in Europe in support of the end of South Africa’s colonization were supported by print media in the different countries.
