Describe 4 ways the Pickwell family is unique and special.

The Pickwell family is unique and special for many reasons. They are a large family with 18 members, including 10 children, parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. They are a tight-knit family who love and respect one another. They are also extremely welcoming.
The Pickwells treat Maniac as though he is a part of their family. Even though their family is quite large, they still find room for Maniac at their dinner table. They even welcome Mars Bar and anyone who needs a roof over their head at any given moment. They are an example of true love and acceptance in a story filled with racism and hate.
All of the Pickwells' names begin with the letter D. Mentioned by name are Baby Didi, Duke, Dominic, Donald, Dion, and Deirdre. We can infer that the other chidrens' names begin with D as well.
Finally, the Pickwell children are unique in the way that they value family. They run around the town fairly freely but always come home. They are impressed by and curious about Maniac, who in a way does the same. For example, they are very surprised when Maniac runs away from their dinner table and proceeds to run on the railroad tracks. Even the ragamuffin Pickwells have not been so brave as to run on the tracks. However, no matter where the children are and what they are doing, they always answer to the dinner whistle and come running. This shows that the Pickwells value family above all else. Dinner is an important time that cannot be missed.
