McDougal Littell Algebra 2, Chapter 3, 3.1, Section 3.1, Problem 68

To solve this we have to isolate the x.
3x-8=16.
3x=24.
x=8. We get 8 for the solution. Now we can check this answer by substituting x into equation.
6(8)-8=3(8)+16
48-8=24+16
40=40. They give same answers. Therefore, the x value of 8 is correct.
