The sniper's life is threatened when he is gravely wounded in the arm, since he can no longer shoot his rifle.
Liam O’Flaherty's story of the Irish Civil War pits countryman against countryman. The IRA (the Irish Republican Army) is a paramilitary organization to which the main character belongs. This organization wants to force the British from the northern part of the country. If this goal is attained, Ireland will no longer be split in its loyalties. But North Ireland fights to remain a free state.
As the sniper lies in pain, after having cleaned his wound where the bullet is lodged in one of the bones of his arm, the man realizes that he must not be on the roof when morning comes, for the other sniper is watching for him to try and escape, and he can no longer use his rifle, because making any movement of his injured arm is extremely painful. Moreover, the bone is fractured, rendering him unable to hold a weapon that is as heavy as a rifle. Now he is very vulnerable. His only chance is to devise a trick to cause the enemy sniper to stand up. He does create a successful ruse, and he kills the other man. But once he is on the street and turns over the body of the other sniper whom he was able to shoot, the IRA sniper makes a tragic discovery.

How is the sniper's life threatened?
College Algebra, Chapter 3, 3.6, Section 3.6, Problem 6
Evaluate $f + g$, $f - g$, $fg$ and $\displaystyle \frac{f}{g}$ of the function $f(x) = x^2 + 2x$ and $g(x) = 3x^2 - 1$ and find their domain
For $f+g$,
$
\begin{equation}
\begin{aligned}
f+g &= f(x) + g(x)\\
\\
f+g &= x^2 + 2x + 3x^2 - 1 && \text{Substitute } f(x) = x^2 + 2x \text{ and } g(x) = 3x^2 - 1\\
\\
f+g &= 4x^2 + 2x - 1
\end{aligned}
\end{equation}
$
The domain of $f(x) + g(x)$ is $(-\infty,\infty)$
For $f-g$
$
\begin{equation}
\begin{aligned}
f-g &= f(x) - g(x) \\
\\
f-g &= x^2 + 2x - \left( 3x^2 - 1 \right) && \text{Apply Distributive rule}\\
\\
f-g &= x^2 + 2x - 3x^2 + 1 && \text{Simplify}\\
\\
f-g &= -2x^2 + 2x + 1
\end{aligned}
\end{equation}
$
The domain of $f(x) - g(x)$ is $(-\infty, \infty)$
For $fg$
$
\begin{equation}
\begin{aligned}
fg &= f(x) \cdot g(x) \\
\\
fg &= \left( x^2 + 2x \right) \left( 3x^2 + 1 \right) && \text{Apply Distributive property}\\
\\
fg &= 3x^4 + x^2 + 6x^3 + 2x \text{ or } fg = 3x^4 + 6x^3 + x^2 + 2x
\end{aligned}
\end{equation}
$
The domain of $f(x) \cdot g(x)$ is $(-\infty, \infty)$
For $\displaystyle \frac{f}{g}$
$
\begin{equation}
\begin{aligned}
\frac{f}{g} &= \frac{f(x)}{g(x)}\\
\\
\frac{f}{g} &= \frac{x^2 + 2x}{3x^2 - 1}
\end{aligned}
\end{equation}
$
The domain of $\displaystyle \frac{f(x)}{g(x)} \text{ is } \left( -\infty, -\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}} \right) \bigcup \left( -\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}, \frac{1}{\sqrt{3}} \right)\bigcup \left( \frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}, \infty \right)$
How does Charles Darwin describe nature?
Charles Darwin describes nature as a result of evolution. In 1859, Darwin published On the Origin of Species. In this publication, the idea of evolution is first explored. Within this theory, Darwin introduces the idea of survival of the fittest. He believed a species’s environment naturally ensures some members of the species thrive and others perish depending on their individual traits. For example, rodents born with the same fur color as the surroundings will be more likely to hide from predators, thus making it more likely they will survive and reproduce. Rodents with contrasting fur colors will be more noticeable to predators. Thus, rodents with contrasting fur will often perish before reproducing. Eventually, the species will evolve into rodents with fur colors closer to the surrounding habitat color.
Who wants power in The Tempest?
More than anyone else in The Tempest, it's Prospero who strives for power of one sort or another. It was a loss of power that led to Prospero being banished to a remote island. Back home, he was the Duke of Milan. But because he neglected his duties to spend time with his books and his magic, he was usurped by his brother Antonio and cast adrift at sea.
Once established on the island, Prospero tries to reclaim some of his old power by controlling Ariel and Caliban. Having been deprived of earthly power, he resorts to the power of magic to exert authority over his new subjects. Although he treats Ariel somewhat better than Caliban, Prospero never hesitates to make it clear to the tricksy spirit just who is in charge.
So long as Prospero is deprived of what he believes is rightfully his—the duchy of Milan—he will continue to exercise power in his own way, combining the authority of a nobleman with the magical powers of a skilled sorcerer. It is only when he is eventually restored to his throne that he finally renounces his magic and consigns his books to the sea.
Explain inflation.
"Inflation" refers to the usually gradual increase in the cost of goods and services over time. For example, a gallon of milk cost $1.65 in the year 1975 and an average of $2.51 in April 2018.
Economists measure the inflation rate using the Consumer Price Index, which tracks the shopping diaries of 24,000 people in the U.S. who report their purchases, and what they paid for them, including food and energy.
Another way to look at inflation is in terms of purchasing power: $1000 in the year 1975 would be equivalent to $4790 today. In other words, today's dollar is not worth as much as it was in the past.
As long as wages rise along with the rate of inflation, this is okay. But if inflation rises faster than wages, it becomes a problem. In some extreme circumstances, such as World War II in Greece, inflation soared, with the cost of goods doubling every few days.
This illustrates the law of supply and demand: if a commodity, like milk, becomes more scarce, the price will rise.
On the other hand, the more dollars that are available in a given time and place, the higher prices will be. This explains why buying a home will cost a lot more in San Francisco or New York than in Omaha. Wages are higher and there are many more people and dollars competing for a limited supply of properties.
One tool the government has for fighting against inflation is raising the cost of borrowing, or interest rates. For example, if the cost of borrowing to buy a car or a house increases, then fewer people will buy cars or houses, and (theoretically) inflation will slow.

What was Daniel's part in the skirmish?
In Chapter 2, Rosh gives the order to rob a caravan heading through the valley trade route in the mountains. Rosh wants his band to capture a giant slave because he says that the slave is too valuable to waste on the galleys. Daniel is disappointed because he is responsible for holding a scared fat man in check while the others free the huge slave from the caravan. Suddenly, Rosh gives the order to attack and Daniel runs towards the heavy man in the striped headdress and twists his arm back before the man has a chance to grab for his dagger. Daniel quickly grabs the man's dagger and pokes the man's ribs with it. Daniel feels cheated out of a challenging opportunity when he sees the terror in the man's face. The entire skirmish happens quickly, and Rosh orders his men to retreat after they successfully take the slave. Daniel's job in the skirmish was simply to make sure a fat man did not hurt anyone while the rest of Rosh's band took the slave.
