The purpose of a mission statement is to define an entity's purpose. It tells the world why it exists. For such a mission statement to be effective, it has to answer questions such as what the organization does, how it performs its task, who they do it for, and what value the entity provides.
In this regard, the statement, "The program believes that peer-to-peer support is critical to the continuum of care for veterans and yield relationships intended to ease the transition from combat to civilian life" answers these questions most adequately since it defines the purpose of the Vet to Vet program.
The program's goal is to make the passage from combat to civilian life easier than it would otherwise would have been. Second, the statement makes it clear that the program performs its task by using a mentorship strategy that provides peer-to-peer support.
Furthermore, it is apparent from the statement that the program serves the needs and interests of war veterans and that it also provides value by trying to ensure that such veterans assume normal lives, separate from those that they experienced during combat. In the process, the program identifies critical situations and deals with them. Veterans can adjust to their new roles in a peaceful society, away from the conflict in which they were involved.
Finally, the declaration more than aptly meets the requirements for a good mission statement because its wording is clear, concise, and unambiguous.
