Intermediate Algebra, Chapter 4, 4.1, Section 4.1, Problem 16

Solve the system $
\begin{equation}
\begin{aligned}

x - 4y =& -4 \\
3x + y =& 1

\end{aligned}
\end{equation}
$ by graphing.

To graph these linear equation, we plot several points for each line.

$x - 4y = -4$

$3x + y = 1$

Based from the graph, the point of intersection is $(0,1)$.

Therefore, the solution to the system is $(0,1)$.
